What is Colitis?

Colitis is a condition that causes intestinal inflammation, accompanied by abdominal pain and occasionally distension. Colitis symptoms and colitis treatments are varied based on the patient.

It’s important to disclose the details of your medical history to Dr. Sergio Del Hoyo in order to receive an accurate picture of the status of the colitis symptoms and to receive an accurate colitis treatment. If you have a direct family member with the same disease, there is an increased risk of the condition presenting.

In addition to directly related genetic factors, a nutritional evaluation is necessary for each patient. Within the various eating habits can lie deficiencies in vitamins and minerals, especially in antioxidants. All of the food that the patient puts into their body directly influences intestinal inflammation and colitis symptoms.

There are different types of colitis, one of the most common is ulcerative colitis, which in addition to intestinal inflammation causes inflammation of the colon and rectum. Another of the most common types is nervous colitis, which can be prevented from following a given nutritional plan and reducing stress.
